Ligue 1 makes historic start with average attendance records

France’s Ligue 1 has continued its record-breaking start to the 2024-25 season in terms of attendances, welcoming an average of 36,652 spectators to nine stadiums over the weekend.

A total of 329,864 spectators attended during the second round of football matches, with the season kicking off on August 16.

The average attendance figure beats the previous record of 32,338 set during the 25th round of matches last season. Last year also saw France’s top tier beat the average attendance across the whole season, with roughly 27,113 fans attending each scheduled game. This represented a 14% year-on-year increase and the highest average figure in the history of Ligue 1.

A total of 495,321 spectators have attended the first 18 games of the current campaign, representing an average of 27,518 spectators – marking the best start to a season in terms of attendance for Ligue 1 clubs.

Additionally, season ticket sales have reached record levels with an average of 17,469 holders per club. In total, some 314,441 fans have already purchased a season ticket for their club.

In comparison, the 2023-24 campaign also broke a record with an average of 17,200 season ticket-holders per club.

Ligue 1’s next round of games will take place between August 30 and September 1.
