Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Sports Authority, are set to introduce an upgraded ticketing system for the country’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The men’s national football team is set to face Angola on September 5 at Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana’s largest stadium with a capacity of 40,528. The new e-ticketing system is hoped to streamline entry and improve the overall matchday experience.

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif highlighted the success of implementing the original platform during the Ghana vs Nigeria 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The use of digital ticketing resulted in record revenues and attendees, leading to further roll-outs of the technology elsewhere – the Premier League Board (PLB) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) also embraced the system, making match tickets available for fans to purchase online.

Chairman of Ghana’s National Sports Authority Seth Pawwum Boyoyo said: “Beyond buying tickets online, the e-ticketing platform has now been significantly upgraded to enable attendees to be assigned to specific seats within the stadium. This is a first in Ghana since we hosted the AFCON in 2008.”

The e-ticketing system has been upgraded to include handheld point-of-sale devices for faster ticket verification. Additionally, an increased number of ticket verification and security staff will be on hand to assist fans.

“The digital economy is here to stay. A core focus of my administration has been to align with the government’s broader vision of a digital economy where sports are enjoyable, hassle-free, and transparent,” added Sports Minister Ussif.

“This platform not only elevates the fan experience but also empowers the entire sports community to play a more active role in our national successes. A streamlined ticketing system guarantees faster access, enhanced security, and a more transparent process for all involved.”
