Hollywood Bowl cancelled a major concert on Sunday due to a power outage in Los Angeles.

The outage, which affected thousands of homes and businesses across the region, was blamed on a heat wave by the primary electric utility company. The Hollywood Bowl gig featured artists Vance Joy, Grouplove and Tiny Habits.

The venue’s operators have said that updates will be provided for when the concert can be rescheduled. It states that tickets bought for the event will be honoured at the future performance, although no guarantee has been made for its rescheduling.

“Due to a power outage at the Hollywood Bowl, tonight’s concert is cancelled,” read a Hollywood Bowl statement.

“If a new date for this performance can be confirmed, details will follow and tickets for the original date will be valid for the new performance date.”

As of yesterday evening, Southern California Edison, which is the primary electric utility company for much of the area, was responding to around 60 different outages.

These impacted more than 6,000 customers in a service area spanning five counties.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power had approximately 6,600 customers without power. The agency then claimed it had restored power to more than 71,000 customers since the start of the current heat wave.

The next scheduled event at the Hollywood Bowl is for tomorrow night as Los Angeles Philharmonic Music director Gustavo Dudamel is due to lead Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. No word has come from the venue about whether or not the show will go on.

Yesterday’s concert was part of the KCRW Festival which completes its summer series on September 22.

Grouplove is also on its own tour with the band’s next show scheduled for September 17 in Atlanta.

“This is such a bummer,” the band posted on social media about the cancellation. “Wish we could turn on the lights.”
