The US Open welcomed more than one million fans in attendance for the first time in its history while, in a busy sporting summer in the US, the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) also set a new record.
The Grand Slam tennis event surpassed the seven-figure mark as a total of 1,048,669 fans came over its full three weeks which represented an eight per cent increase on the 2023 edition.
Attendance for the two week of main draw competition reached a new high of 832,640 spectators.
The main draw number came on the heels of the first-ever seven-day US Open fan week which welcomed more than 219,000 fans on its own.
The event featured a full schedule of signature events and activities each day and night and marked a 37 per cent increase from last year.
The main draw fortnight also saw the inaugural US Open Fan Fest on the final weekend from September 7 to 8.
Fans with a grounds pass were able to enjoy exclusive access to enhanced grounds activities and access to a finals fan viewing party with on-court seating inside Louis Armstrong Stadium.
It featured live look-ins to the celebrity arrivals as well as both the men’s and women’s singles finals which saw Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka triumph.
The US Open was not the only American sports event to reach new heights as the NWSL surpassed 1.5 million in regular season attendance for the first time.
A total of 7,291 fans watched the Chicago Red Stars take on the Orlando Pride yesterday which clinched the milestone figure for the league.
The figure comes after the NWSL exceeded one million fans in attendance for the third consecutive year during week 13 of this season.
With a current average attendance of nearly 11,500, the NWSL is on track to reach the two million mark before the end of the season.
