Frontwave Arena, a new multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue, has officially opened its doors – making its debut yesterday (Monday) with the Gold Over America Tour featuring US Olympian and the most-decorated gymnast in history, Simone Biles.

The 7,500-capacity arena is based in Oceanside, California’s El Corazon Park, and will showcase sports, music, comedy, family shows and community events. A second date for the Gold Over America Tour is scheduled for today.

Frontwave Arena will also serve as the new home of Major Arena Soccer League’s San Diego Sockers, as well as the newly announced NBA G League team San Diego Clippers. Additional sporting events already scheduled include the AVP Beach Volleyball League, International FANCLB Cup – USA vs Mexico, and the LA Clippers v Brooklyn Nets National Basketball Association (NBA) pre-season game on October 8.

A slew of live music performances have already been pencilled in for the new venue, including Rock 105.3’s Rocktoberfest, JAM’N 95.7 presents Monsters of Hip Hop, Magic 92.5’s Freestyle Explosion, and KSON Country Christmas. The venue’s grand opening concert will feature rock band Cake, and will be held in partnership with BellyUp Entertainment on October 5.

The arena cost more than $80m (£60m/€72m) to complete and was privately funded by three groups. The 170,000-square-foot venue features acoustic absorption insulation throughout the arena bowl to reduce noise, reverberations, echoes, and distortions. Two high-definition video scoreboards and a 360-degree ribbon board were installed, as well as video production infrastructure that will support broadcast-quality cameras, audio and data.

“After a year and a half of construction and two years of architectural development, we are thrilled to see this massive project finally come to fruition,” said Josh Elias, co-founder and chief executive of Frontwave Arena.

“We’ve overcome many challenges and I couldn’t be more proud to see our vision for an independently owned venue, for San Diegans by San Diegans, realised.”

Guests will also have the option of different price points for access, with the arena featuring a premium lounge and patio capacity for 300, 16 premium suites and three VIP viewing decks.

“Frontwave Arena is committed to delivering great guest experiences,” added Thierry Gray, Frontwave Arena’s chief operating officer. “When it comes to entertainment, details really matter. And that’s why we put so much effort into the design of the arena, to make sure we’re delivering world-class acoustics and visual capabilities.”
