Comedian Shane Gillis has broken Toronto venue Scotiabank Arena’s record for the most tickets ever sold for a live event, surpassing iconic rock band U2.
The American comic and actor played to a sold-out crowd over the weekend, which marked his penultimate show of the Shane Gillis Live arena tour. The current leg of the tour will conclude with a date at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on October 18.
Gillis is co-host of ‘Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast’ with fellow stand-up comedian Matt McCusker. It is the most subscribed-to podcast on Patreon, a monetisation platform that provides business tools for content creators to run a subscription service and sell digital products.
Scotiabank Arena is home to the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Toronto Raptors and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Toronto Maple Leafs. The venue boasts a capacity of 19,800, and has a jam-packed schedule featuring major musical artists over the coming year.
It is set to welcome the likes of Sabrina Carpenter on Wednesday (September 25) Billie Eillish on October 1-2, Fred again on October 3-4, Justin Timberlake on October 17-18, Cyndi Lauper on October 20, Iron Maiden on October 26 and more.
In 2025, Scotiabank Arena is also set to host Dua Lipa on September 1-2 as part of the English-Albanian singer’s Radical Optimism tour.
