French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain has celebrated a group of 79 fans who are entering into at least their 40th year as season ticket-holders.

The supporters were selected after the team contacted 8,365 people that had been fans the longest.

The 79 have been given the title of “historic subscribers” and they will take part in a lap of honour at PSG’s home ground Parc des Princes this season.

“They will be presented during a home match, where they will have the opportunity to do a lap of honour of their emblematic stadium and will receive an honorary distinction to mark this event,” read a PSG statement.

Following the celebration of the initial 79 fans in the coming months, the club aims to repeat the experience for another group of supporters who have held tickets for 40 years or more.

“Celebrations will take place each season to honour supporters who reach this exceptional milestone of loyalty to Paris Saint-Germain,” the statement continued.

“Thanks to their status, they will be regularly honoured and will be able to benefit from unique experiences as well as priority access to certain events organised by the club.”

PSG was founded in 1970 following the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain.

Since then, it has gone on to become France’s most successful club, winning 50 official honours including a record 12 top-flight league titles.
