Ticketmaster is restricting ticketing transfers for upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in North America to within 72 hours of the event amid recent reports of accounts being hacked.
According to numerous reports across North America, the ticketing operator has amended its terms and conditions with new limits on ticket transfers. Previously, fans could transfer tickets for Swift gigs between Ticketmaster accounts at any time.
Fans will still be able to transfer their tickets to other people, but not until three days before each concert. Swift has shows in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto and Vancouver later this month.
Ticketmaster has not commented on the reason for the change. However, it follows numerous reports of Ticketmaster account holders complaining that tickets they purchased months ago had been suddenly transferred from their accounts to email addresses they were unfamiliar with.
The Toronto Star reported on one fan unexpectedly receiving an email from Ticketmaster informing her that her tickets had been successfully transferred. The fan did not recognise the email address that the tickets had been transferred to and had not actioned the transfer. The fan, who was able to get her tickets back, discovered via social media that many had been hit by the same fraudulent activity.
In a statement, Ticketmaster said it is working to “restore fans’ tickets,” instructing accountholders that the best way to protect themselves is “setting a strong unique password.”
“Scammers are looking for new cheats across every industry, and tickets will always be a target because they are valuable, so Ticketmaster is constantly investing in new security enhancements to safeguard fans,” the statement continued.
In July, Ticketmaster informed its users that it had been the target of a data breach earlier this year in which they said some users’ names, contact information and payment card information may have been compromised.
