Moana 2 has set a 2024 pre-sales ticket record, selling more first-day advance tickets than any other animated movie this year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moana 2’s advance ticket sales have even exceeded this year’s highest-grossing movie in the US so far, Inside Out 2.
Moana 2 also boasts the fourth-highest in first-day advance ticket sales for all 2024 movies – not just animated films – behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked and Dune: Part Two.
The film’s pre-sales suggest that it is likely Moana 2 will be one of the year’s highest-grossing films, with Wicked and Gladiator II released just before. Moana 2 has competition for the year’s favourite animated film from Inside Out 2, which set a $1.6bn (£1.2bn/€1.5bn) box office record in the US over the summer.
Moana 2 will be released just before Thanksgiving weekend in the US on November 27, while the film will be released on November 29 in the UK.
The film is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It stars Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui.
