UK Events, the umbrella organisation for the UK’s events industry, showcased that the sector generates roughly £61.7bn (€74m/$80bn) annually in its latest report.
The UK Events Report 2024 was compiled by Great Potential Consultancy, and covers a wide range of events, including corporate, public, and charity sectors. The report found that trade shows, exhibitions and product launches contributed £33.6bn to the UK’s economy, while music festivals, sporting events and cultural festivals generated £28.053m.
The sector has also witnessed a shift in employment dynamics, with more freelance roles and stabilising salaries following the pandemic.
Additionally, the report found that more event organisers are looking to incorporate sustainability in their operations, while also implementing new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
“The UK events industry has faced unprecedented challenges over the past few years, but what’s clear from this report is that we’ve not only recovered but are driving forward a growth agenda that will see our sector flourish in the years to come,” commented Chris Skeith, OBE, chair of UK Events.
“The resilience, adaptability, and innovation within our industry are second to none, and I’d like to extend my thanks to all those involved in putting this report together. Their efforts provide a strong case to share with the UK Government as we advocate for the continued recognition and support of this vital sector.”
UK Events is set to share the report with government stakeholders to further hammer home the importance of ongoing support for festivals, sports, live music and live entertainment so that the sector remains at the forefront of the international stage.
