Adelaide council launches initiative to promote live music

The City of Adelaide is launching a programme to promote live music in partnership with the national Live Music Office which is devoted to developing the industry.

The initiative, named Live and Local, will be supported by a new pocket guide to music venues, festivals and experiences within the city’s Central Business District and North Adelaide.

“Music has always been at the heart of Adelaide’s cultural life and Adelaide is proudly Australia’s first and only UNESCO City of Music,” said Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith.

“The Live and Local program amplifies Council’s commitment to live and local music in the lead up to the tenth anniversary in 2025 of its designation as a Creative City.

“The program is a comprehensive capacity building program designed to showcase, support and celebrate our unique music culture and community.

“Its national best practice activities and strategies – paired with the City of Adelaide’s investment in live music initiatives – will benefit musicians, venue owners and operators, aligned creative practitioners, businesses and audiences.”

The programme will also include a review of policy, regulation and strategy to develop a new live music action plan for Adelaide.

Organisers are aiming for it to help deliver Adelaide’s strategic plan to amplify its status as a UNESCO City of Music.
