Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) has witnessed a strong start to its 2024-25 season, with 11 sell-out crowds across Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmania and Perth.

The total number of sold-out games so far this season is an increase on the seven recorded at the same point last year.

Overall, more than 300,000 fans have attended games.

Additionally, the basketball league is experiencing an increase of 34% on average audience on ESPN compared to the average audience for the whole of last season. The jump follows a 26% increase in broadcast audience on ESPN last season.

“It has been a sensational start to the season, and we couldn’t be happier with the growth trajectory and position of the League, especially the performance on our primary broadcast partner ESPN,” NBL chief executive David Stevenson said.

“The NBL is still the fastest growing sporting league in Australia and that has been underlined by yet another jump in ratings, as more fans engage with world-class basketball week after week.”

Stevenson added: “We remain focused on driving growth as the intensity and competitiveness of the season goes to another level.”

Week 9 of 20 will see the Tasmania JackJumpers take on the Brisbane Bullets followed by the Perth Wildcats and South East Melbourne Phoenix on Friday; Cairns Taipans vs the New Zealand Breakers and Illawarra Hawks vs Sydney Kings on Saturday; Melbourne United vs the Adelaide 36ers and Brisbane Bullets vs Perth Wildcats on Sunday.
