TKTS is expanding to Philadelphia after establishing itself as the leading purveyor of discounted theatre tickets in New York City.

The TKTS Booth is set to open this week and will offer 30-50% off tickets to same-day shows or up to 72 hours in advance.

All tickets for Philadelphia’s performing arts scene will be sold in person, just as they are in the famous TKTS Booth in New York’s Times Square. Since opening in the early 1970s, TKTS booths have sold almost 70 million tickets to shows across Broadway and New York’s wider performing arts scene.

TKTS’s move into Philadelphia has been arranged in partnership between the non-for-profit TDF, which runs the ticket company, and Visit Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation.

“The TKTS programme will be a tremendous boost to Philadelphia’s theatre and live performance venues as they continue their rebound from the pandemic,” said Patricia Wilson Aden, president and chief executive of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.

“The arts and culture sector has a combined $3.3bn impact in Southeastern Pennsylvania. This new TKTS booth will grow that impact by supporting our performing arts community and generating additional revenue for Philadelphia’s restaurants, retail, and hotels.”

More than 20 arts and cultural organisations in the Pennsylvania city are already signed up with TKTS, including Arden Theatre Company, Philadelphia Ballet and The Wilma Theater.

Deeksha Gaur, executive director of TDF, said: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Visit Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation to bring this transformative service to their vibrant performing arts community. Making the arts accessible for all is TDF’s chief mission, and the opening of TKTS Philadelphia marks a meaningful new step in our continued work toward that goal.”
