The German live entertainment body Federal Foundation LiveCulture is to launch a Live Music Fund Germany in a bid to offer financial support to the event industry.
The investment will go directly towards helping small concerts in smaller venues, festivals, and first tours for newcomers.
The publicly funded foundation spoke in favour of the UK’s move to introduce a voluntary ticket levy on all stadium and arena tickets in the coming year.
It states that the Federal Association of Music Venues, LiveKomm, has been working on a similar solution for more than a year.
A recent survey in Germany by LiveKomm showed that more than half of the responding clubs said they would not be able to continue operations without financial support over the next 12 months.
“The Live Music Fund Germany is intended to offer more than just support – it is a statement for the future of cultural diversity and an investment in our vibrant music scene,” said Felix Grädler, chairman of the Federal Foundation LiveCulture
“We are delighted about the international example from Great Britain and see it as an incentive to continue to push forward with our own solution.”
The chairman of the Federal Foundation LiveCulture, Karsten Schölermann, added: “We would therefore like to invite all players in the German music industry who have not yet been in discussion with us to sit down with us and work on a common, sustainable solution in order to continue to offer talents and fans inspiring live experiences.”
