The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) has reportedly set up a working committee to tackle issues such as ticket scalping.
According to a report from The Straits Times, Case president Melvin Yong said that new initiatives will be announced soon to help tackle ticket scalping and other issues, such as disputes related to car-sharing.
A survey had previously been commissioned by the consumer watchdog to identify areas in which consumers felt more could be done. These included ticket scalping, car-sharing dispute and greenwashing by companies.
Almost half of the respondents to the survey identified ticket scalping as a significant concern.
“As Singapore strives to become a regional entertainment hub, and more people use car-sharing services, we can expect more consumer complaints in these areas,” said Yong, as per The Straits Times.
Case also reported that complaints against the entertainment industry had increased by five times during the first half of 2024.
In March, it was revealed that Taylor Swift fans in Singapore had lost more than $213,000 in concert ticket scams. Swift performed six concerts in Singapore as part of her Eras Tour.
