ABBA Voyage has contributed £1.4bn (€1.7bn/$1.8bn) to the UK economy, according to a new report from music, culture and creative economy consultancy Sound Diplomacy.
The virtual concert residency is held at a purpose-built 3,000-capacity arena in London and features digital avatars of the Swedish stars as they were in 1979. The £1.4bn figure was generated between the residency’s opening in May 2022 and May 2024.
ABBA Voyage attracted over two million visitors during that period, with 31% travelling from outside of the UK. One million guests attended in 2023 alone. The report also said attendees spent an average of £220 per day in London, as well as the cost of the ticket to watch the show.
According to a report from the London Standard, ABBA Voyage is also set to sell its three millionth ticket this month.
Areas surrounding the arena include Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. Local restaurants and bars in these areas received £51.26m, commercial shops brought in £27.28m and accommodation gained £66.38m.
AXS recently announced that it had been made the new ticketing provider for ABBA Voyage.
