Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour came to a close last night, with the final show taking place in Vancouver, Canada.
The tour featured 149 shows spanning five continents over almost two years. The Eras Tour, which included a set list of songs from nearly every album the singer has released, first kicked off in Arizona in March 2023.
Each concert lasted well over three hours and more than 10.1 million tickets were sold.
Taylor Swift Touring, the superstar’s own production company, said that the tour made $2,077,618,725 (£1.6bn/€1.9bn) from ticket sales in total. The tour originally made history last December, when it became the first to surpass $1bn in ticket sales.
More than 60,000 fans filled Vancouver’s BC Place stadium to watch the final show, according to a report from the BBC.
The report added that merchandise had also been a lucrative source of revenue and is estimated to have brought in an extra $400m.
Of course, the tour made other headlines thanks to the sheer demand for tickets. When ticket presales began for the US leg at the end of 2022, Ticketmaster faced issues and blamed an unprecedented bot attack as well as the volume of fans trying to secure tickets without the necessary codes. The platform was forced to cancel and postpone onsales due to limited inventory.
These issues led to a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in the US on Ticketmaster parent company Live Nation Entertainment’s market dominance.
Ultimately, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) filed an antitrust lawsuit in May.
