Tickets for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next year will go on general sale on January 31.
The announcement of the onsale date follows the news that 200,000 tickets have already been sold across 49 events during the presales ticketing phase. The presales phase was held between August 5 and September 20, with 50,000 people from 83 different countries purchasing tickets to multiple sessions.
There are a total of 700,000 tickets available for the 20th edition of the Championships. The local organising committee has priced 70% of the ticket inventory at an affordable 10,000 JPY (£52/€63/$66) or less.
Additionally, to make the event more accessible to an even wider audience, some 2,025 tickets will have a special price of 2,025 JPY.
Ticket pricing is split into five different levels, and only eight tickets per session can be purchased per transaction. Tickets for individual seats will now also be available.
Morning sessions will cost between 2,500 JPY and 15,000 JPY, while Weekday Evening Sessions are priced between 4,000 JPY and 30,000 JPY. Weekends and Holidays Evening Sessions will cost between 5,000 JPY and 50,000 JPY.
“My ambition as the president of World Athletics is to always have a full stadium at our World Championships. I am delighted that we were able to use the Paris Games as a catalyst for the ticketing pre-sale and that so far 200,000 tickets have already been sold,” commented World Athletics president Sebastian Coe.
“We are delighted with the early momentum ahead of the general ticket sales next month. I wish to congratulate the local organising committee and the people of Tokyo on the success of your preparations thus far.”
