Coldplay, Taylor Swift crowned 2024 touring royalty

Coldplay have sold more than 10.3 million tickets for their ‘Music of the Spheres’ world tour, the most by any artist ever on a single tour.

The British band’s tour has been running since March 2022 and is currently scheduled to end in September 2025.

The data has come from trade publication Pollstar, which also reported that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour brought in $1.04bn (£800m/$950m) in 2024, and sold 5.2 million tickets across 80 shows during the reporting period.

In total, Swift’s Eras Tour racked up a record-breaking $2,201,107,485 and sold 10.1 million tickets – the most for any solo artist ever. The 149-show stint spanned five continents over almost two years.

Pollstar’s Top 200 Worldwide Top Touring Artists chart also featured the likes of Pink, Luis Miguel, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, The Rolling Stones, Bad Bunny, Zach Bryan, Metallica and Madonna.

This year saw the Top 100 Worldwide Top Touring Artists were up to a record-breaking $9.49bn compared to 2023’s $9.2bn.

“2024 has proven to be a historic year for the live entertainment industry, one we may never see again in our lifetimes,” said Andy Gensler, Pollstar’s editor-in-chief.

“While the industry has slowed since 2023, we still saw record-setting revenues, with the top two tours of all time running concurrently. Taylor Swift’s powerhouse ‘The Eras Tour’ shattered the all-time touring record with an estimated $2.2bn gross. Meanwhile, Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres Tour’ sold over 10.3 million tickets, the most by any artist in live entertainment history. The tour has also grossed over $1.3bn to date and remains the second highest-grossing tour ever, with 48 more dates scheduled in 2025.”
