Frank Turner has committed to donating £1 of every ticket sale from his upcoming UK tour to grassroots venues after partnering with the Music Venue Trust (MVT).
From April 1 to 19, Turner is set to perform in Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Cambridge, Oxford, Norwich, Ipswich, Swansea, Bristol, Southampton, and Folkestone.
The collaboration with MVT is aimed at helping to sustain local, independent venues.
“For the upcoming April tour, I’m proud to say I’ve partnered up with my old friends at Music Venue Trust,” Turner wrote on social media.
“£1 from every ticket will go towards supporting local independent music venues.
“Tickets on sale now. Shows will sell out, so don’t miss your tickets.”
The MVT has repeatedly warned of a crisis emerging in the live music sector, with record amounts of venue closures seen last year as 16% shut their doors.
Turner has released ten solo albums and has won prizes at the Kerrang and Aim Awards throughout his career.
He has worked with the MVT in the past, including serving as a patron, performing at the House of Commons for the launch of their 2023 Annual Report, and advocating for a £1 ticket levy at large-scale music events to support independent venues.
Earlier this year, the 42-year-old broke the world record for the most shows performed in 24 hours as he played 15 gigs in 15 different locations – all at independent venues.
This month saw the UK’s Creative Industries Minister Chris Bryant instruct the music industry to make tangible progress on the introduction of a grassroots venue levy by the end of March next year.
The news follows the UK Government encouraging to adopt a voluntary levy on all stadium and arena tickets to support grassroots venues.
