Hybe set to introduce facial recognition entry at events in South Korea

Fans attending performances from artists in the Hybe roster in South Korea will be able to enter venues using facial recognition technology.

According to a report from The Korea Herald, the South Korean entertainment giant will first introduce the Face Pass system at a fan meeting event called ’42:Club’ for rookie K-pop band TWS. The band’s first fan meeting is scheduled for February 14-16 at Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium in Seoul.

Face Pass has been developed by South Korean ticketing platform Interpark Ticket, and allows attendees to verify their identity and enter a venue using facial recognition. The system integrates the facial recognition service from South Korean technology firm Viva Republica’s financial app Toss with the Interpark Ticket platform.

The system has also been designed to deter ticket scalpers.

Guests will still have the option to use the traditional verification process at separate identification booths, where identification and ticket checks will be carried out.

Those that would look to utilise the system can register their faces through Interpark Ticket’s Face Pass service before the event. On the day of the events, attendees can then enter the venue by walking past cameras installed at the entrance.
