South Korea’s K League, which is the top division of men’s football in the county, posted record revenue figures during the 2024 season, thanks largely to an increase in ticket sales.
The Korea Professional Football League (K League) said that 25 clubs in the top-flight K League 1 and second-tier K League 2 sold 42.5 billion won (£23.3m/€28m/$28.9m) worth of tickets, an increase of the previous 34.4 billion won in 2023.
The 12 clubs in the top-flight accounted for 34.2 billion won, led by FC Seoul with 7.6 billion won. The club also attracted 501,091 across the season, which was won by Ulsan HD FC for a third year in a row. Ulsan ranked second in ticket sales worth 4.6 billion won.
In third was Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors with 3.9 billion won worth of ticket sales.
In the second tier, Suwon Samsung Bluewings – which were relegated from the top division before the 2024 season – made 3.1 billion won from ticket sales.
This accounted for 38% of the entire sales for K League 2; 2024’s champions FC Anyang brought in 791.5 million won for ticket sales.
A record 3.43 million fans across the two divisions attended, surpassing 2023’s record of 3.01 million.
The season ran between March and November last year.
