Merlin Entertainments has announced three closures of its attractions in Turkey, including Madame Tussauds, Legoland and Sealife.

The final day of operation for each of the attractions in Istanbul was December 31, with ticket-holders for after this date offered a refund.

Those with an annual pass have been contacted separately on refund details.

Each of the websites for each location feature the same statement from Merlin Entertainments, which read: “Merlin regularly reviews the commercial performance of all its attractions to ensure that they are in line with the company’s longer-term growth strategy.

“This decision to close this attraction follows a careful and thorough evaluation of alternative options. Unfortunately, we have not been able to and do not see any realistic prospect of finding a viable solution that aligns with Merlin’s strategic and commercial objectives.”

The British operator of theme parks and tourist attractions also said that it had been a “very difficult decision” to close the three sites.

In November, Merlin Entertainments announced a leadership shift which saw its chief executive Scott O’Neil step down.

Former chief operating officer Fiona Eastwood has taken on the role of interim CEO while the chairman and board embark on the process of identifying a successor.
