Theatre discovery app Stagely has secured a £50,000 ($60,000/€59,000) grant from Innovate UK, as part of the Creative Catalyst Programme.
The app connects audiences with local theatre productions with personalised recommendations, a database, and social features to make discovering and engaging with live theatre easier.
It was founded by Devon-based Daniel Lennox who has more than 20 years of experience in the creative industries.
“I’m thrilled that Innovate UK has recognised the potential of Stagely to make a real difference in the theatre world,” said Lennox.
“This funding will enable us to build a truly unique app and platform that connects audiences with incredible productions, supports regional theatres, and fosters a more inclusive and vibrant theatre community.
“This is not just an investment in Stagely, but also in the future of UK theatre.
“It will enable us to accelerate our development, and launch the first version of our app to create a more vibrant and inclusive theatre landscape across the UK.”
The grant from Innovate UK will accelerate the development of the platform and app, which aims to break down barriers to theatre access and celebrate diverse productions, particularly outside of the West End.
“Stagely is born of a love of theatre, and belief that local theatre is where audiences and performers of tomorrow are developed,” read a Stagely statement.
“We’re building a pioneering mobile app to transform how audiences discover and engage with theatre in the UK and beyond. Addressing the fragmented landscape of theatre information and creating a platform celebrates the magic of live performance at every level.
“Stagely envisions a world where theatre is accessible to all, diversity thrives, and regional inequalities fade. By empowering audiences and supporting the industry, Stagely aims to become the go-to platform for theatre discovery globally.”
