London’s historic Old Royal Naval College is set to host its first-ever largescale music event when it welcomes 60,000 attendees to a new dance music festival this summer.

Labyrinth on the Thames will take over the UNESCO World Heritage site across six days in August. The Greenwich venue, which dates back to the 17th century, will welcome up to 10,000 spectators per day.

The series will be the first within the grounds of the landmark and is set to welcome a number of world-renowned contemporary electronic acts. The first headliner for Labyrinth on the Thames will be Grammy-award-winning DJ and producer Black Coffee, who will kick off proceedings on August 1.

Labyrinth targets ‘exciting spaces’

Event organisers Labyrinth are promising attendees an experience fusing sound, light and art, with a dance floor set against the edge of the River Thames.

“We’re beyond excited to be announcing Labyrinth on The Thames,” Labyrinth co-founders Michael Dicks and Nick Castleman said in a statement.

“Finding new, exciting spaces to bring artists and fans together, is what drives us, day in, day out. It’s been a multi-year process to bring this project to life and it’s a dream come true for us all at Labyrinth to see this announcement go live.”

Labyrinth, founded in 2017, has previously staged an event in a disused Edwardian tube station, as well as more orthodox venues such as Wembley Arena and Camden Roundhouse.

Kate Miners, Old Royal Naval College’s director of public engagement, said: “We are proud to host Labyrinth on the Thames at the iconic Old Royal Naval College, an event that not only celebrates music and art but also offers a unique opportunity to experience the prestige of Greenwich’s rich heritage in a contemporary and dynamic way.”
