Australia’s Splendour In The Grass festival has been cancelled for the second year running.

Organisers stated in a post on social media platform Facebook that the team behind the event needed “a little more time”.

“Think of it as a breather so we can come back even bigger and better when the time is right. Lots of other huge events on the horizon so keep an ear to the ground in the coming months – we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on,” the post added.

The festival has been held annually since 2001 and located at Ngarindjin/North Byron Parklands, New South Wales, since 2013. It is operated by Live Nation-backed Secret Sounds.

Sources reportedly told the The Guardian Australia that the festival had failed to secure ‘overseas acts of enough calibre’ to headline a major Australian festival, leading to its cancellation.

Previous headliners of the festival have included Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala, The Strokes, Lizzo, Coldplay and more.

Prior to its cancellation last year, Splendour In The Grass had announced a lineup featuring performances from Kylie Minogue, Future and Arcade Fire.
