English Premier League football club Nottingham Forest has shut down 170 ticketing accounts that were identified as touts.
The accounts were disabled prior to the team’s home match against Liverpool last week at the City Ground.
“Following thorough checks, investigatory work, and recognising purchasing patterns, hundreds of accounts have been shut down across the season,” read a club statement.
“As a result, most of the tickets sold via third-party ticket re-selling websites, such as StubHub, LiveFootballTickets, FootballTicketNet, and more, are invalidated, with victims of touting frequently visiting the Ticket Office on matchdays.
“Whilst third-party ticket re-selling websites are the most prolific source of touted tickets, social media, especially Facebook, is also a regular channel for ticket touts.”
As a result of the surge in ticket touts, Nottingham Forest has issued a warning to its supporters and encouraged them to be more vigilant when purchasing tickets.
It has also set up a dedicated email address for fans to report suspected ticket touting activity.
“The Club will continue to take strict action against any unauthorised ticket resellers” the statement continued.”
Nottingham Forest currently sit in third place in the Premier League and are set for the club’s best top division finish since 1995.
