This is because organisers have had to facilitate India’s refusal to play in Pakistan – which is hosting the tournament from February 19 to March 9 – by staging the country’s matches in neutral Dubai thanks to a hybrid model. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided that India would not compete in Pakistan; the two countries have a tense relationship and India has not travelled to Pakistan since 2008. A hybrid model was eventually agreed upon last month.
India will play all of its games in Dubai, including knock-out matches if the side reaches them.
The Emirati city will also host the semi-final regardless of whether India reaches the final four or not, and should India reach the final, that too will be played in Dubai. The second semi-final will be played in Lahore, Pakistan – and should India not progress to the final, this will also be played in Lahore.
Tickets for group stage matches and the second semi-final to be played in Pakistan will go on general sale tomorrow (January 28). General stand ticket prices will start from 1,000 Pakistan rupees (£3/€3.50/$4), while premium offerings will begin from 1,500 Pakistan rupees.
Physical tickets will also be available from February 3 at designated TCS Express centres across Pakistan.
Ticket information for the India matches to be played in Dubai on February 20, 23 and March 2 will be announced in due course.
The One Day International (ODI) tournament will feature the world’s top eight teams: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa. Pakistan qualified automatically due to its status as host, and the seven other teams were the highest-ranked from the 2023 Cricket World Cup group stage.
Ten matches will take place in Pakistan across Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. Work has been carried out to improve National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore (pictured) and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for the event.
