US star Jack White is offering $20 (£16/€19) tickets to students for US shows on his ongoing “No Name” tour.
White said that a finite amount of the discounted tickets will be available in-person only at each venue’s box office and would require a valid student ID. Most tickets remaining for his tour cost at least $79.
“For every stop on the No Name Tour, a limited number of student tickets will be available to purchase in-person only at each venue’s box office on show day,” White wrote on social media.
“These tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis with a valid student ID (1 ticket per student ID).”
From February 17 to May 24, White is taking his tour around the US and Canada to Boston, St. Louis, Omaha, Saint Paul, Chicago, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Nashville, Austin, Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, and Troutdale. The majority of general admission tickets for these shows have already sold out but the remaining ones start at $79.
The news was received favourably by fans on social media, with one writing: “This is so incredibly kind of you.”
Another said: “Taking down the corporate ticket industry one show at a time. Thank you!”
White, the former frontman of White Stripes, named the tour after his sixth solo album “No Name” which was released last August.
The tour also features European shows in London, Birmingham, Brighton, Paris, Utrecht, Glasgow as well as five in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima, Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo.
However, White has not clarified whether the student deal will apply to the overseas shows.
