Some 20,000 ice hockey fans are expected to attend games in Sfântu Gheorghe, Romania as tickets go on sale for the Ice Hockey World Championship Division 1, Group A competition.
In what will be the country’s largest sporting event of the year, the competition will take place at Sepsi Arena from April 27 to May 3. National teams from Great Britain, Poland, Japan, Italy, Romania and Ukraine will participate across a total of 15 games.
The top two teams will be promoted to the 2026 IIHF World Championship while the last-ranked team will be relegated to Division 1, Group B.
“We have strengthened Romania’s relationship with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), with whom we currently have a very good collaboration,” commented Nagy Attila-Ferenc, president of the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation (FRHG) during a press conference marking the start of the ticket sales process.
“The Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I, Group A is the biggest sporting event of the year in the country, providing a fantastic opportunity to promote this sport.
“Ice hockey is not just a sport; it is a way of life. Our goal is to attract as many young people as possible to ice hockey, and clubs play a crucial role in its development. Internationally, we aim for Romanian ice hockey to stay as close as possible to the top 20 teams in the world.”
During the initial sales phase, there will be two types of season tickets available. Category one season tickets will be priced at 500 Romanian Leu (£84/€100/$105), while the second category will be priced at 350 RON.
Tickets are available through Bilete(.ro).
The next phase of ticket sales will begin in March, with individual tickets to be priced at 100 RON for Romania’s matches, and 25 RON for others.
International supporters will also be able to purchase special season tickets covering all five matches of their favourite team for 400 RON.
Some 2,000 seats are available per game at Sepsi Arena, which is a multifunctional venue that hosts basketball, handball, futsal matches, gymnastics and more.
The new ice rink was inaugurated in December, and since then it has hosted the Romanian Cup (Copa Romaniei) final, as well as two friendly matches between Romania and Ukraine.
“Preparations for the Ice Hockey World Championship, Division 1, Group A are in full swing and we are working hard to ensure everything is ready for the first match,” added Ervin Miklós, member of the FRHG Federal Bureau.
