Spotify’s rumoured ‘superfan’ tier could launch this year with potential perks such as early access to concert tickets, better audio quality and more.
According to Bloomberg, the new tier would cost up to $5.99 (£4.77/€5.74) per month in addition to a Premium subscription in the US, while the news platform also said the prices would alter depending on territory.
Bloomberg, citing sources close to the matter, reported that a rollout is being planned for later this year, though details like cost and exact launch dates haven’t been confirmed. This is because Spotify needs to secure “rights from all of the major music companies”.
The superfan tier was referred to as ‘Music Pro’ by Universal Music Group’s chief operating officer and chief financial officer Boyd Muir at Morgan Stanley’s European Tech, Media and Telecom Conference in November last year.
Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment jointly own between 6% and 7% of Spotify.
The early access to tickets aspect of the superfan tier would be attractive to live music lovers, as accessing passes for the world’s hottest concerts has become more tricky thanks to such high demand.
Spotify originally tested the waters in selling tickets directly to fans back in 2022.
However, in January last year, TheTicketingBusiness learned that the music streaming giant had slashed its workforce, with most being in the dedicated direct ticketing space.
