Broadwick Live, the company behind the Printworks and Drumsheds nightclubs, is set to open a new “cultural hub” in South London.
The 2,000-capacity site, to be named Corner Corner, will be located in Rotherhithe’s Surrey Quays.
It will take the place of a shopping centre from the 1980s which is due to be demolished.
On February 5, the Southwark Council planning committee approved plans for the venue and event space. Broadwick Live is hoping that the space will be available from spring of this year, as reported by The Standard.
Corner Corner is planned to take up 50,000 square feet and will overlook Canada Dock. It is aimed to serve as a “cultural hub” with “collaborative workspaces, live music, and food and beverage outlets”.
It is also due to stage live music and ticketed DJ events with plans for the venue to remain open until 3am on Thursdays through to Saturdays.
This is, however, subject to licensing permission, but Broadwick Live’s partner British Land has said that it does not plan to host regular late night events and will mostly offer live jazz gigs as opposed to club nights.
In addition to music, Corner Corner will host the first-ever Minecraft immersive experience in the country.
Corner Corner is said to be partnering with Kerb Markets, a food market chain with multiple locations around London, with a café focused on “hyper-local, sustainable farming”.
The space will also feature London’s “largest indoor urban vertical farm” with its produce due to be used in meals throughout the venue’s food stalls.
