Capital One Arena has celebrated its highest-attended event of 2025 so far, welcoming more than 19,000 guests for a show from American comedian Shane Gillis.
The 19,619 figure also ranks among the top 10 highest attended shows in the Washington D.C. arena’s history.
Gillis also joins the venue’s list of other concert sellouts so far this year including Tyler, The Creator, Kelsea Ballerini and Deftones.
The performance from Gillis was part of a packed 48 hours of events at Capital One Arena, with the D.C. College Access Programme’s College Signing Day, and the Washington Capitals’ ‘GR8 City Celebration’ – a fan event in honour of the National Hockey League (NHL) team’s Alex Ovechkin breaking the all-time goals record.
A quick changeover on Sunday morning then allowed for the Capitals’ final regular season home against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
“Capital One Arena continues to prove its unique ability to host all kinds of events, as we capitalise on the D.C. market’s unique position when booking out our building’s programming,” said Lakeisha Roberts, vice-president, booking at venue owner Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
“Our venue remains agile in accommodating third-party groups by leveraging the industry-leading services of our in-house team and resources, as we continue to provide our region’s diverse audiences with the highest caliber of live entertainment.”
Having opened in 1997, Capital One Arena not only serves as the home of the NHL’s Washington Capitals, but also the National Basketball Association’s (NBA’s) Washington Wizards and the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA’s) Georgetown men’s basketball team.
The indoor arena hosts nearly 220 events every year.
