Croatian ticketing company Entrio has sold more than 150,000 tickets for Marko Perković Thompson’s concert at the Zagreb Hippodrome set to take place on July 5.
The amount adds to the 130,000 tickets that were sold in the first wave, making it the highest number of tickets ever sold for a single concert.
The previous record was held by Vasco Rossi’s July 2017 show at Modena’s Parco Enzo Ferrari which sold 225,173 tickets.
“This is one of the most complex ticket sales for a single concert in the world, with which Thompson and his organisational team not only broke the world record, but with this success put Croatia on the world map of the concert and event industry and opened the door to even more major events in Croatia,” said director and founder of Entrio, Berislav Marszalek.
“We are happy to have the opportunity to be part of this historical story and to have helped the organisers sell out the concert with the most tickets sold in the world in record time.”
A third of the audience for the upcoming show is younger than 28 while half of ticket buyers are younger than 32.
While 45% of Thompson’s fans for the concert come from Croatia, some 45 countries were represented in total by ticket-buyers.
These include Russia, Argentina, the United States, China, Canada, Ivory Coast and more.
Thompson took on the stage name after serving in the Croatian War of Independence as he used the American Thompson gun during his time in the war.
During his career, he has attracted controversy over his performances and songs, some of which are alleged to glorify the Croatian fascist Ustaše dictatorship.
Throughout World War II in Yugoslavia, the Ustaše committed genocide against its Jewish, Serb, and Romani populations.
