The 2024-25 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season has culminated in the highest total attendance for a regular season in the ice hockey league’s 108-year history.
Last week’s seven game finale pushed the total attendance to 23,014,458 across 1,312 games, surpassing the 23 million mark for the first time. The record figure represents a 96.9% capacity and beats the 22,873,142 attendance record from last season.
The NHL has a set a total attendance record for the third consecutive regular season.
Regular season games were played across 36 arenas: the 32 NHL home venues plus Winter Classic host Wrigley Field in Chicago; Stadium Series venue Ohio Stadium in Columbus; and Global Series sites O2 Arena in Prague, Czechia and Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland.
This season also saw a crowd of 94,751 – the second-largest attendance in NHL history – fill Ohio Stadium for the 2025 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings last month.
The Montreal Canadiens led the total club attendance, with sellout crowds of 21,105 filling Bell Centre for each of the side’s 41 home dates – totalling 865,305.
Stanley Cup playoffs began over the weekend, with the final set for some time in June.
Last month, the NHL announced it would be returning to Stockholm’s Avicii Arena for a pair of regular-season games featuring the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins in 2025-26.
