AEG Presents Europe has appointed Andrew Spencer as chief operating officer.
Spencer joins AEG Europe from Australian concert promoter Frontier Touring, where he most recently served as chief commercial officer. Set to relocate from Australia in the summer, he will be based in London and will take charge of the company’s operational coordination across the region.
He will report to Adam Wilkes, president and chief executive of AEG Presents Europe and Asia Pacific.
“Spencer is a proven leader with a sharp strategic mind and a deep understanding of the live entertainment business,” commented Wilkes.
“We’ve built a strong working relationship over many years, and he has been instrumental in the success of our Australia and New Zealand operations. I’m excited to continue that partnership as we expand our footprint across Europe — there’s no one better suited to help shape our next chapter.”
Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre has appointed a female chief executive for the first time in its 130-year history, in the form of Karen Smallwood.
Smallwood was previously the director of financial and commercial at the UK theatre, and has previous experience within the arts and charity sectors.
Alex Mahon has been named as the new chief executive of festival giant Superstruct Entertainment.
Mahon previously became the first CEO of UK television’s Channel 4 in 2017, and has been brought in to replace Superstruct co-founder Roderik Schlösser in the autumn. He founded the business alongside James Barton in 2017, and will move to a non-executive director role on the board.
Superstruct was acquired by investment firm KKR last year, and owns a number of major music festivals including the UK’s Boardmasters, Hungary’s Sziget and Defqon.1 in the Netherlands.
Elsewhere, ASM Global-managed International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) has promoted Marc Singerling to the role of director of event delivery.
Singerling began his new role last month following a long tenure as food and beverage services manager at ICC Sydney.
The Melbourne Recital Centre has appointed lawyer, businessman and philanthropist Peter McMullin as its new chair.
A former Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong and former Deputy Mayor of the City of Melbourne, he set up private investment firm McMullin Group where is the current chairman and director.
McMullin has served on the Melbourne Recital Centre board since 2021.
