Fandango zapped by Rogue One rush

Movie ticketing app Fandango crashed as it struggled to meet demand for the new Star Wars film, ‘Rogue One’.

Tickets went on sale on Monday for the first Star Wars standalone film, which hits US cinemas on December 16. The Deadline.com website said tracking suggests it will be the second biggest December opener at around $140m (£113.0m/€132.0m), which would put it just behind the all-time record of $248m set by last year’s Star Wars blockbuster The Force Awakens.

Within a few hours of sales online advance ticket seller Fandago crashed, with customers experiencing long waits in an online queue before receiving a time-out message. Fandango told customers that it had created a ‘wait room’ to help cope with “overwhelming” demand.

Meanwhile, Atom Tickets was boosted by a tweet from Star Wars Rebels actor Stephen Stanton, who told his followers that there were no problems buying tickets at the rival site.
