Live Nation and Springsteen are big winners in H1

 

Live Nation led the way as the world’s biggest grossing concert promoter in the first half of 2016, thanks to the global tours undertaken by the likes of Beyonce, Coldplay, Madonna and Rihanna.

Live Nation’s gross revenues and the total number of attendees at its events were almost twice that of nearest rival AEG Live, according to figures collected by the Billboard music industry publication.

Live Nation attracted10.4 million spectators spending a total of $855.8m (€779.4m) in gross revenues in the six months to June 30. AEG attracted 5.5 million ($464.1m), while T4F-Time For Fun reported 2.2 million ($149.0m).

“This is shaping up to be another record summer for live music for us,” said Bob Roux, co-president of North American concerts for Live Nation. “Our amphitheater business is also going strong, with attendance and show count both well up year-over-year.”

Meanwhile Bruce Springsteen was the most successful touring artist during the period, with more than 1.1 million spectators attending his 45 shows, which grossed $135.4m. Madonna, Beyonce, The Rolling Stones and Coldplay completed the top five.

The top grossing global venue was the O2 Arena in London, which brought in $109.1m from 127 shows during the period.
