Music events boosting tourism in Italy

Italy saw a 6% year-on-year rise in tourism related to music events in 2015.

According to a Cerved survey commissioned by trade marketing association Assomusica, some 6.1m tickets to music events brought in around €640m ($704.1m) in turnover during the 12-month period.

Among those buying tickets for concerts in Italy, 31% lived outside the region in which the event was taking place, while almost 3% came from abroad. More than 2.5% of spectators in Rome and Turin came from abroad, while those two cities and Naples attracted more than 25% of ticket holders from other regions.

Assomusica said the figures were boosted by major gigs such as Bruce Springsteen’s performance in Milan, as well as classical music events like the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago.

“We’re seeing growth in tourism related to music, in line with a greater number of concerts and performances,” said Assomusica president Vicenzo Spera.
