Palace sets up waiting list after record season-ticket sales

English Premier League football club Crystal Palace has set up a season-ticket waiting list for the first time in its history after securing a record 18,000 sales for the 2016-17 season.

Remaining tickets for the remainder of the campaign will only be available to members.

However, fans who want a season ticket for the 2017-18 season can sign up to a waiting list, with season tickets sold next year on a first-come, first-served basis.

Existing season-ticket holders will automatically have the chance to renew their seats without joining the waiting list.

Fans signing up to the list requires a £10 deposit, which will then be deducted from the price of the season ticket when it is purchased, or refunded if the application is unsuccessful.

Palace chairman Steve Parish told the Croydon Advertiser newspaper that although the club could sell more tickets, he wants casual fans to be attracted to Selhurst Park.

“In theory we could sell a few more – there is the demand,” he said.

“But then you wouldn't have the casual tickets and without them, how can you come and experience your first game if you are five or six and your dad wants to bring you?

“For me, it is great to see so many kids here and it is madness down by where the players come in.

“Six years ago the average age was probably about 104, and to see so many kids here now is incredible. I think we want the casual tickets and we need to build some more seats.”
