Wantickets launches lawsuit against Eventbrite

Wantickets, the North American operator that specialises in ticketing and the marketing of dance music events, has filed a lawsuit against live experience and ticketing platform Eventbrite, according to Amplify.

The suit has been filed in a New York court, with Eventbrite accused of “aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty and tortious interference”.

The lawsuit has followed the collapsed takeover of Wantickets by Eventbrite earlier this year.

In July LiveXLive, the live music streaming company, agreed to acquire Wantickets.

According to IQ Mag, a lawsuit filed in September alleged that Wantickets’ ex-chief executive Diego Carlin and ex-president Barak Schurr transferred business to Eventbrite while still employed by Wantickets.

Carlin and Schurr deny the claims, but now a separate lawsuit has claimed that Eventbrite “actively encouraged and participated in a series of disloyal acts” by the two executives.

“While the transaction was under consideration – and with no assurance the deal would actually close – Mr Schurr and Mr Carlin engaged in a sustained campaign to divert business from their employer (Wantickets) to their potential corporate acquirer (Eventbrite), in flagrant violation of their fiduciary duties,” attorney Charles Michael wrote in a civil complaint.

“Among other misdeeds, they arranged for a series of meetings and calls to introduce Eventbrite to actual or potential clients of Wantickets and to tout the advantages of Eventbrite.

“This conduct all but guaranteed that the actual and potential clients would lose interest in Wantickets, regardless of whether the Eventbrite transaction closed, while giving Eventbrite the benefit of the contemplated transaction for free.”
