Hull’s City of Culture online ticketing platform has again come under scrutiny as it crashed this morning (Wednesday) due to demand for free tickets to see a New Year firework display.
Some 15,000 tickets were made available at 8am for the January 1 event – which marks the start of Hull’s UK City of Culture year – but visitors were left frustrated when the site failed to load soon after.
High demand for tickets to an acrobatic performance in June also caused the online booking system to crash.
The City of Culture team said it was working to resolve the problem.
In a statement they said: “Due to the volume of web traffic to the site this morning, we are currently experiencing technical difficulties.
“We’re working as quickly as we can to resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience.”
