Huddersfield price reduction leads to season ticket surge

English Championship football club Huddersfield Town has seen a 60% increase in season ticket sales following the slashing of prices during a limited period.

The second-tier club, which had an average attendance of around 12,500 last season, sold more than 15,000 season tickets at reduced rates before the deadline on Monday.

Adult tickets were priced at £179, but have now more than doubled to £400. The club also said 31 junior season cards were donated by supporters through the ‘Project Future Terriers’ fund, which will allow local youngsters to attend games throughout the next year.

Chairman Dean Hoyle said: “The campaign has surpassed our expectations when it was conceived and I’m really happy we made the decision to extend it out to 15,000 fans above the initial 10,000, as it has given the public of Kirklees the chance to come down and get involved.

“The Sky Bet Championship is a very competitive league and we honestly believe that a vociferous home support can give the team an edge in close games or tough moments.”

Meanwhile, Scottish Premier League club Dundee United are again offering free tickets to disadvantaged children thanks to the generosity of supporters.

The United for Kids charity, the club and Dundee City Council have been giving free tickets to some of the city’s poorest children for more than a decade. The scheme sees the club match donations made by supporters to pay for children to attend games.

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson said: “We are proud of our strong community ties and the United for Kids campaign is an integral part of that.”
