Stars slam secondary ticketing sector at StubHub Q Awards

Jack Garratt, James Bay and Bastille were among the music stars to criticise the secondary ticket market at last night’s StubHub-sponsored Q Awards.

Several acts, promoters and other senior figures within the music industry have knocked the reselling sector, led by companies such as StubHub, in recent months. Fanfair Alliance, the music industry secondary ticketing pressure group, was critical of StubHub’s involvement in the Q Awards when it was announced last month.

Performers and winners did not let StubHub’s involvement prevent them from airing their views on stage at the event, which took place at London’s Roundhouse.

Garratt said fans “deserve fair ticket pricing for the shows they want to go and see” as he picked up his Breakthrough Act award.
Bastille’s Dan Smith said “exploitative secondary ticketing is… s**t for fans and it’s pretty s**t for the bands as well”.

Bay, when picking up the Best Solo Act award, said: “Apologies to my fans for ever having to deal with secondary ticketing sites. I hope we see an end to those.”

Other attendees included Blondie, Meat Loaf, The Charlatans and U2’s The Edge and Adam Clayton, who picked up the veteran band’s Best Live Act award.
