100,000 queue to buy Hamilton tickets for San Francisco

Nearly 100,000 people joined a digital queue to buy Hamilton tickets when seats for the hit musical’s San Francisco run went on open sale yesterday (Monday).

Website visitors were randomly assigned a place in line at 10am through the Queue It virtual waiting room.

Thousands also waited in line outside the SHN Orpheum Theater, with some joining queues 24 hours ahead of the box office opening on Monday morning.

Speaking to the SFGate website, Reid Cammack, the first person in line outside the Orpheum, said he could not miss the opportunity to see the show.

"I've been really excited around the general hype of the show," he said. "I've been to New York and tried to get tickets to the New York production. Now that it's here in SF I want to be sure to see if the first round."

The Broadway sensation is to run at the Californian city’s 2,600-seat Orpheum for 22 weeks from March until September.

A first round of seats became available to American Express cardholders last Monday, and for that sale some 80,000 people were also in the digital line.
