Mobile app Gametime selling 30% of concert tickets on day of show

Kanye West was the biggest draw for mobile-ticket purchasers during 2016, according to newly-released data from Gametime.

The American rap star edged out Drake & Future and Beyonce at the top of the charts, which was based on ticket sales through the 100% mobile-focused app.

Gametime said tickets to see Kanye averaged around $100, with Drake at $176 and Beyonce $112.

While Adele was as low as 15th place on the list, her tickets had the highest average price of $283.

“Mobile ticketing is clearly taking over fans' preferences for convenience and music fans are no exception,” said a Gametime spokesperson.

Gametime also revealed data concerning the buying habits of Millennials – who make up more than 75% of its users – in the live events and ticket space.

The company said 55% of concert ticket sales on Gametime occur during the week of the event, and as many as 30% on the day of event. As events draw near prices decline roughly 25% and buying activity spikes via mobile Millennial fans.

Gametime said: “A consumer behaviour shift is happening in the live event industry with a migration toward the last-minute window (seven days or less until event) driven by a younger more spontaneous and experienced shopping consumer.

“Today’s fan wants to make their buying decisions in their own way and on their own schedule, which is helping drive changes in technology and philosophy. Live music tickets specifically have evolved from a months ahead planned activity to now just hours for some fans. Mobile commerce has accelerated and facilitated this by creating the most simple buying process possible.”
