Alton Towers warns over fake free tickets post

Alton Towers, one of the UK’s most popular theme parks, has warned social media users not to click on false advertisements that claim to offer free tickets.

The park’s owners issued a statement after Facebook posts appeared promising five free tickets to people who clicked on a link before then being asked to share personal information.

A spokesperson for Alton Towers, which is owned by Merlin Entertainment, said: “We have been made aware of a social media scam offering free tickets to Alton Towers Resort that is currently circulating on Facebook.

“This is not an official offer or affiliated to Alton Towers Resort in any way.

“Whilst action is taken to remove the scam, we would strongly advise against sharing your details or the post.

“Any official social media competition run by Alton Towers Resort will appear on the verified Alton Towers Resort social media page(s) and if anyone is unsure about the legitimacy of a social media competition relating to Alton Towers Resort should contact us immediately.”
