Atlético Madrid fans snap up Champions League season tickets

A record number of Atlético Madrid season ticket-holders have signed up for a Uefa Champions League add-on as part of their package for the 2016-17 campaign, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The Spanish LaLiga football club said as many as 79 per cent of season ticket-holders have taken up the package this year, up from 74 per cent last year and the highest amount since the initiative launched in the 2013-14 campaign.

The figure means that of the 48,000 season ticket-holders at Atlético, 37,000 will be able to attend all Champions League home matches this season.

Supporters that have opted in to the scheme will also be able to obtain tickets for the final stages of the tournament, should Atlético progress that far. The team reached the Champions League final in 2013-14 and 2015-16.

The club also offers a package where supporters can attend the three home games during the group stages of the competition for a price of €90 ($101).
