No further action over Australian Olympic accreditation incident

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) athlete service volunteers have avoided sanctions after an investigation commissioned by the body found that they had altered accreditations to allow athletes to sneak into a basketball game at the Rio Olympics.

As reported previously by TickTechNews.com, dozens of Australian athletes gained entry to the Australia v Serbia contest by “recycling” tickets.

The athletes were reportedly supplied with stickers to place over their accreditation passes in order to sit in the athletes’ section of the venue, with those already inside then passing tickets on to others waiting outside.

Former Olympians Natalie Cook and Lachlan Milne were found to have altered accreditations, while the latter also took non-scanned tickets back to athletes outside the venue to allow them to get inside. However, the AOC has decided that no further action is needed.

Nine athletes were held by police and later fined over the incident by a court in Rio, but the AOC paid the fines.

Cook and Milne were among four team officials who were sent home before the closing ceremony.
