Trebel announces plans for ticket feature

Music-sharing and social media app Trebel Music has announced plans to add a new feature that will link artists’ pages directly with ticketing and merchandise options.

The free, ad-funded iOS app offers users the chance to stream offline and download music without using mobile data.

The platform was launched earlier this year, and while it offers a streaming service similar to Spotify and Pandora, it believes its focus on social media differentiates it from the market.

The social media service is currently being trialled in a number of colleges and high schools across the US. In setting up the free app, the user can select which college campus they attend. This then allows the user to see what songs and artists are popular on campus and which other students are using it.

However, chief executive Gary Mekikian told the Daily 49er news site that Trebel is already working on a new interactive feature that will pair it with ticketing and artist merchandise sites. An alert will come through the app when a user’s favourite artists are having a concert near them.

Another update, dubbed ‘music mates’, is a social feature that will allow users to see who on their campus listens to and likes the same type of music as them.

“We want kids to download the app and start using the social features,” Mekikian said. “We’re going out reach out to them and ask for their advice on how we make it more useful and fun.”
